Chapter 1: A War Among Friends
*It's a few days before Friday Night Assault and we are live at a house show taping in Morgantown, WV. Located at 3450 Monongahela Blvd, Morgantown, WV stands the University Of West Virginia Coliseum; home of the WVU Mountaineers NCAA Division I baasketball team. The smells of sweat, poor plumbing and arena-style food can be inhaled around the arena. The massive windows that surround the perimeter of the building only show the cars coming in attempting to find spaces, the parking lot lamps and the darkness of the evening. Fans are jam-packed into the building; walking around, taking advantage of the merch stands and food vendors, or just trying to find their seats for the upcoming NCW house show. Some members of the Neo Nation, the crowds in attendance, are being held back by security because on the third floor of the building, Chris Clinton is standing at the doors of the Jerry West Lounge, named for WVU and National Basketball Association Hall-of-Famer Jerry West. He's looking very spiffy wearing the colours of the Mountaineers by sporting an old gold blazer and blue jeans. He's carrying the microphone with the NCW logo emblazoned on it and waits for the cue from the cameraman. After a few moments, he gets said cue.*
Chris Clinton: Alright, soon to be making his way to the interview area is none other than my guest at this time, former co-holder of the NCW Tag Team championship, possibly the most decorated man IN the NCW today, The Charmed One, Phoenix Halliwell. Before he gets out here though, I want to take you back to a few weeks ago on Assault... from the Canadian Tire Centre in Ottawa, Ontario, Canada, these words from the man himself. Let's take you back now.
*Cut to the footage from Assault 06/21/19:*
Phoenix:
"I think it's time I re-asserted myself into the singles belt divisions. I mean, I've held all the belts I care about; those which were the Peoples' Championship, The Honor Championship, and The World Title. All of these go by different names now but I guess that's what happens when companies merge. Maybe now is the occasion to spread a little Halliwell magic and put in my bid for one of those belts. Who knows? Maybe I have one more Grand Slam run left in me? Who knows? So, Allura, with all due respect to your office an the minions you employ to do your bidding, I am asking. I'm not out here asking for title shots. You and the fans know me better than that. I just want the opportunity for title shots. If I can conquer those challenges, then and only then, will you might see some more gold added to this waist of mine." *Cut back to Chris Clinton.*
Chris Clinton: And now, ladies and gentlemen, I give you, The Charmed One, Phoenix Halliwell!!
*The small crowd goes insane as Phoenix comes out from behind the door of the lounge dressed in black wrestling boots, blue jeans and a black leather jacket with a white Phoenix Halliwell "So Mote It Be!" T-shirt underneath. He's got sunglasses in his hear and he's chewing gum but once he sidles up to Chris Clinton, he spits out the gum and bats it away into a garbage can.*
Chris Clinton: Alright, Phoenix... in a few short days you will be challenging Ice Queen in the main event of Assault. Unfortunately for you, her Pride Of The Peoples Championship is not on the line.
Phoenix: Allow me to correct you, Mr. Clinton. It's not unfortunate for me, but it is VERY fortunate for the Ice Queen.
Chris Clinton: Be that as it may, I'd like to get your thoughts on what we just saw with your promo in your hometown.
Phoenix: It's quite simple, really. I came out and put almost every champion we've got in the NCW, on notice. I looked each and every single one of them in the eye and told them that I was on my way. I said I wanted a 2nd Grand Slam Championship run in me and I just wanted the opportunity. Then I went to my Wheel of Champions and I spun that sucker around and around and around. When it finally came around to the end of the spinning, there was only one name that the marker clearly showed. That name belongs to The Ice Queen. I just want you to know, Queen, that I didn't select you because I feel you're an easy champion to beat. Quite the contrary; this could be one of my toughest matches to date. I certainly didn't pick you because you're a woman. I have much more respect for the fairer sex than that. As I just explained, your selection was completely at random; and when that marker made the wheel stop, not only did it select my opponent, it outlined the path of my destiny. You see, Ice Queen, this match is merely the first step in a long climb. You've heard the expression "you've gotta start somewhere?" It's just a pity that the first step I take is going to find you under my boot.
Chris Clinton: You seem to be going into this match fist, fire and fury. Really, the only thing you have to gain is a check mark in the win column.
Phoenix: I'd like to correct you once again, Mr. Clinton, because you're getting it all wrong, as usual. Sure, in this match, a "check mark in the win column" is all I'll get, but you didn't read the fine print, Clinton. I know Ice Queen is well aware of the stakes. If I defeat Ice Queen in this Iron Person Match, then I WILL get a shot at her title at a later date. It seems to me that Ice Queen has ALMOST everything to lose in this match; and not a whole hell of a lot to gain... nothing, really. A victory over me for her, in the grand scheme of things, is meaningless. Either way, she's still wearing the gold when the final three is counted. I, on the other hand, have nothing to lose; save for a title shot. Ice Queen is going to get the full endurance of the Charmed One and she better hope she's got a prayer in hell that she can keep up. Personally, I think she's got a snowball's chance.
Chris Clinton: So, it's being dubbed an Iron Person Match where you and your opponent, in this case, Ice Queen, will compete for the most number of decisions in a specified time limit. The one of you who gains the most decisions will win the match. First off, tell me your thoughts on matches of this nature and then, your thoughts on this match in particular.
Phoenix: The Iron Man Match... probably second only to the Last Man Standing match as the truest test of a person's physical endurance. Everybody who has ever been in one has their own idea of what the perfect strategy is, but when it comes right down to it, there is only one... survival. All you have to do is out survive your opponent and the grapes of victory are yours to savour. Now, as far as my match with Ice Queen goes, the same thing applies. Ice Queen, I can tell that you and I are going to do things to each other in that ring that would cripple, maim and hell, even kill normal people. Personally, I look forward to it, and I suspect you do as well. It's going to be a war, no doubt.
Chris Clinton *interrupting, somewhat*: And it seems to be a war of friendly fire... to carry the military metaphor a little bit further. There is no real conflict between you two, is there?
Phoenix: Chris, Chris, Chris... two people don't have to hate each other to have a great match. While it's true that neither of us have a beef with each other... or, y'know, something that needs to be "settled in the ring," there are a few dynamics in this match that will rear their ugly heads: Ambition, Greed, and Selfishness. That's as far as the match itself goes. But I want the world and especially Ice Queen to know one thing. Respect from me, is earned. Ice Queen, you've not gotten it yet, so if, after the match I find that you've proved yourself worthy of my respect, win, lose or draw, I will stand up in the middle of that ring and offer my hand to you. I suspect you are, deep down, an honourable person but I suppose we will find out at Assault, won't we?
Chris Clinton: I guess we will. Do you have any final thoughts regarding Friday night's Assault program?
Phoenix: Well, although I do have something to say now, I doubt this would be my FINAL thoughts... I'm sure between now and then I'd have at least a COUPLE of 'em regarding Assault... but I digress. Ice Queen, we're in the main event of NCW's Anniversary Party. Let's end that show, with a BANG! So mote it be!
Chris Clinton: Alright! This man is on his way to Norfolk, Virginia and to Friday Night Assault where he'll face Ice Queen in a non-title, Iron Person Match. He is the Charmed One Phoenix Halliwell and we'll see you live from the William “Dick” Price Stadium in Norfolk for the Neo Championship Wrestling's anniversary show. It's going to be a night to remember. And now, without further ado, let's go down to the ring where tonight's house show is just about ready to begin!
*The camera zooms out from Chris Clinton and we find that he is alone. He puts the mic down and smiles to a section of fans as he finishes up. While he does this, the camera fades to black.*

The NCW logo flashes across the screen as Warriors of the World by Man o War begins to play. The logo quickly fades to a talk show set up a cityscape background with a desk and a couple of black leather arm chairs sitting across from it all facing the camera. Behind the desk is seated a bald dark skinned gentleman in a nice suit. He smiles at the camera as the music fades.
Leon Jones: Welcome ladies and gentlemen to the first edition of NCW Deep Dive. I'm Leon Jones and tonight I will be joined by the NCW Eternal Champion Ice Queen.Trapped Under Ice begins to play as Ice Queen comes out she is wearing a pale blue sheath dress. She shakes Leon's hand and sits down in the first chair. Leon smiles as he shakes her hand. Leon Jones: My you look beautiful tonight. I hope I'm not being to forward.Ice Queen: Not at all Leon. You've always been very respectful. Thank you for having me as your first guest on your new show.Leon Jones: You are quite welcome. Tonight you'll be facing off against Phoenix Haliwell in a 2 out of 3 falls. What are your thoughts?Ice Queen: It's going to be a tough match for sure. Anytime you are doing a match where you are going for multiple falls it's not only a test of endurance but strategy as well.Leon Jones: Well he has been a multiple time champion, and he is now looking to get yours. Do you have a any worries about that?Ice Queen: He certainly has a track record for winning belt. However I think he's trying to bite off more than he can chew. He wants to hold as many belts as he can. It's such an unfocused approach. He literally picked which person he was challenging by spinning a wheel. He chose with a carnival game. How can I take that approach seriously? I don't doubt that he does sincerely want to challenge me but there was no planning, no forethought. Where is his strategy? Is he going to make that up spur of the moment as well? Don't get me wrong I've been studying his past matches to develop a strategy for this match in preparation. His methodology has me raising my eyebrows to say the least.Leon Jones: True. But you know that is going to fight with everything that he has to win. Do you think that you can handle anything that he can throw at you?Ice Queen: I have fought many opponents of all shapes and sizes. I'd also like to think I've seen all levels of both crazy and determination. I don't want to sound overconfident in saying that I'm ready, but I will say that I feel well prepared.Leon Jones: That's good to know. Is there anything else you want to say to your opponent?Ice Queen: As a matter of fact I do want to say something to Phoenix.
She turns her head and looks directly at the camera. Ice Queen: Phoenix you said that respect from you is earned. It cuts both ways and while we have no true animosity once the match is over I do hope we can shake hands and share a drink as respected equals. Leon Jones: Well that's all the time we have for tonight. Thank you for being hereIce Queen: My pleasure Leon good luck with your future guests. The camera zooms out as the music resumes and the screen fades back out to the NCW logo.
